Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
A former Charlotte resident now living in Lancaster, S.C., is accused of killing a former Belmont mayor and a passenger in a car crash late Wednesday night.
Lester Saunders Norman Jr., 41, will face two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Kevin Loftin, 56, and his passenger, Donna Jean Deitz, 60, both of Belmont.
Police say they were in pursuit of a 2001 Acura sport utility vehicle driven by Norman when it hit an Audi sedan driven by Loftin, sending it into a pole.
Loftin and Deitz were coming back to Belmont from an Ash Wednesday service in Charlotte, according to Sister Nancy Nance, a friend of Loftin.
But, if I had to find a silver lining in such tragic news, it is the realization that I am in a newsroom full of extremely talented journalists.
